This past spring, Abscope completed an asbestos abatement project for a local area hospital. Performing abatement work within an active medical facility requires a great deal of care and respect for the patients and staff. Abscope rose to the challenge and successfully finished the project on time.

Abscope’s own Steve Mahana and his lovely daughter Emily, Miss New York for America! Emily is a life-long resident of Syracuse, NY. She attended Syracuse University to pursue a B.S. in Civil Engineering and graduated Summa Cum Laude in May 2018. Emily volunteers for her platform "Empowering Women in STEM", showing students of all ages what possibilities are available to them if they pursue learning in the STEM fields. Emily now works in Liverpool, NY as a bridge engineer, and has plans to obtain a master’s degree in Structural Engineering and MBA in the future. In her spare time, Emily enjoys staying active as an Irish step dancer. Emily was crowned Miss New York for America on March 31st in Rochester, NY. She will represent the state of New York at the national Miss for America pageant on August 23rd in Las Vegas, NV. One of Abscope's recent jobs took place in western New York for Canal Corporation. Historic limit switch covers needed decontamination of asbestos and lead. These switch covers contained layers of thick lead paint on the outside and asbestos on the inside. As seen in the before and after pictures, Abscope was able to restore the covers to their former (much safer) glory.

Abscope recently completed a sediment removal project on the barge canal in Western NY. Despite many challenges, including working in severe winter conditions, the Abscope team was able to complete the project safely and meet the canal opening deadline. Great job to our crews that worked so hard to complete this project on time.

Abscope will be starting a PCB stream remediation project at a manufacturing facility in Central NY. The project will require construction of access roads, installation of a bypass system, excavation of 600 CY of PCB impacted sediments, T&D and wetland restoration. Despite working in the dry season, Abscope crews will be challenged with managing and solidifying the sediments.

Abscope is currently performing the site civil work for the repowering project underway upstate NY. The project owner is in the process of replacing and upgrading all power generating components at the facility; extending the life of the wind farm far into the future.

Abscope crews have completed the Portadam installation as part of the NYS Barge Canal sediment removal project. The work area is currently being dewatered and excavation to remove MPG sediments from the Canal will begin later this week

Abscope just completed a project to rehab and upgrade a water supply system in Washington DC. Abscope crews safely abated valves, joints and water supply equipment, and prepared them for upgrades and reinstallation. Wall penetrations were also abated and prepared for piping upgrades. #environmentalawareness #infrastructureupgrade

Abscope has mobilized and begun site preparation for remediation of MGP sediments from within the NY State Barge canal. Crews are currently installing a cofferdam and rock netting systems as the final steps of site preparation. Once completed Abscope crews will excavate and remove approximately 800 cy of MGP impacted sediments from the canal. Abscope’s crew will be challenged by working in the severe Western NY winter weather . The project needs to be completed by April 15th, 2019 when the canal reopens.

Abscope announces Bob Romagnoli, PE as new President Abscope’s CEO, Jerry Romagnoli, recently announced the hiring of his brother Bob, who will serve as the company’s President. Being in the environmental industry for over 30 years, Bob brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the firm. Prior to joining Abscope, he was Managing Director and Senior Engineer at TIG Environmental, a consulting firm headquartered in New Jersey. Before that, he served as a Senior Vice President at Arcadis for many years, leading their sediment remediation practice. Bob holds a Civil Engineering Degree from Bucknell University, and an MBA from Cornell University. Together with his unique mix of consulting and construction-related experience, Bob’s leadership will help to maintain Abscope’s solid reputation and success in the environmental remediation industry.
